Details
Jules Lamarsalle was a typographer and photographer. Also a master printer, he established himself in 1900 on rue de la République in Villefranche-sur-Saône. The Lamarsalle printing house continued operating under the same name until 1984. He also worked as a publisher of regional postcards, developed an interest in stereoscopy, and distributed stereoscopic cards. In 1904, he filed a patent for a folding stereoscope made of paper-covered cardboard, the Cartoscope, an ideal complement to his own publications.
The device consists of a cardboard box covered with brown paper and decorated with gold Art Deco-style printing. The box also serves as storage for postcards in the 9x14cm format.
