Objects made between 1893 and 1939

Between 1893 and 1939, stere­oscopy entered its sec­ond gold­en age. Dur­ing this peri­od, the cen­tre of inno­va­tion shift­ed from Britain to France, where Jules Richard pio­neered the Véras­cope gen­er­a­tion of cam­eras and view­ers. Com­pact cam­eras, sophis­ti­cat­ed table­top stere­o­scopes, and new view­ing sys­tems trans­formed both ama­teur and pro­fes­sion­al stereo­scop­ic pho­tog­ra­phy. This sec­tion fea­tures objects from this remark­able era of tech­ni­cal innovation.
