This hand-held stereoscope dates to around 1908–1915. It features a polished mahogany body with ebonized fittings, brass focusing controls, and a rear frame for interchangeable coloured glass filters, allowing the illumination of transparent stereographs to be adjusted for different viewing effects.
Historical Context
Carl Küster operated a photographic supply business in Berlin under the name Spezialhaus für Photographie. City directories list the business on Alexanderstraße between 1908 and 1937. Although no evidence has been found that Küster manufactured stereoscopes himself, the original retailer’s label on this instrument documents its sale through his photographic supply store.
