The peri­od from 1850 to 1892 marks the birth and first gold­en age of stere­oscopy. Fol­low­ing the intro­duc­tion of Brew­ster’s hand-held stere­o­scope, stereo­scop­ic pho­tog­ra­phy became an inter­na­tion­al phe­nom­e­non, with mil­lions of view­ers and stere­o­graphs pro­duced across Europe and North Amer­i­ca. This sec­tion fea­tures objects from the pio­neer­ing decades of stereo­scop­ic history.
