Details

The Achro­mat­ic Table Stere­o­scope is designed for view­ing paper and glass stere­oviews. The base plate of the view­er folds into a stor­age box that also func­tions as a stand. When stored, the base plate forms the cov­er of the box and is secured by two locks.
A mir­ror can be mount­ed in two brass arms to pro­vide illu­mi­na­tion for glass stere­oviews. The view­ing unit can be tilt­ed to adjust and improve the view­ing experience.

Historical Context

Unlike the stan­dard mod­el, the height adjust­ment here is not achieved using a brass rail with a knurled screw. This mod­el fea­tures a screw­less adjust­ment mech­a­nism locat­ed cen­tral­ly beneath the view­ing unit. This very con­ve­nient and dis­creet mech­a­nism was like­ly designed for an exhi­bi­tion, pos­si­bly the Great Exhi­bi­tion of 1862.
