Boxed Stereoscope ‘The Achromatic Stereoscope’, Exclusive Version
Details
The Achromatic Table Stereoscope is designed for viewing paper and glass stereoviews. The base plate of the viewer folds into a storage box that also functions as a stand. When stored, the base plate forms the cover of the box and is secured by two locks.
A mirror can be mounted in two brass arms to provide illumination for glass stereoviews. The viewing unit can be tilted to adjust and improve the viewing experience.

Historical Context
Unlike the standard model, the height adjustment here is not achieved using a brass rail with a knurled screw. This model features a screwless adjustment mechanism located centrally beneath the viewing unit. This very convenient and discreet mechanism was likely designed for an exhibition, possibly the Great Exhibition of 1862.
