Details

Moritz Pillischer (1808–1884) was a London optician and scientific instrument maker of Hungarian origin, best known for his high-quality microscopes, telescopes and optical instruments. This Brewster-type stereoscope bears his label at 88 New Bond Street, an address used from 1853 onwards, placing its manufacture in the mid-Victorian period. The body is veneered in finely figured olive wood, complemented by ebonised edges and blackened eyepieces, reflecting the elegant craftsmanship typical of quality British stereoscopes of the era.
